Now where do I begin! I was lucky enough to hear about this little gem speaking to a Swiss couple in Colombia about their favourite spot in the Caribbean. By the sounds of it, it was exactly what I was looking for, a secluded kitesurfing paradise where I could quickly progress with my kiting.
As if by fate, I contacted Kite Buen Hombre who just so happened to be looking for their next camp manager for the season. As I’m writing this to you now, I’m staring out into the flat turquiose water of Buen Hombre which I’ve been lucky enough to call my home now for the last 4 months.
Here, I’ve completed my first downwinds, my first jumps, grabs and backrolls and not to mention my IKO instructor course! To top it off, I’ve picked up some Spanish along the way whilst making friends with local Dominicans too.
As well as meeting many of the regular kiters who come to visit Kite Buen Hombre, I’ve met some pretty cool newbies to the kitesurfing world, who by the way picked up the sport really quickly here! I’m so glad to have found this kiteboarding paradise and I don’t seem to be the only one.
Saj was another fantastic student who came to the school to continue his early stages of learning to kite, after leaving Cabarete previously feeling like it was incomplete. He became part of our growing family and we look forward to his return. He also left us with these kind words to share with you:
“I was looking for flat and shallow water where I could learn kitesurfing. I was recommended Kite Buen Hombre by Facebook groups saying that it would be the best spot for this. On my arrival, I really loved the quiet, rustic environment, the people and good vibes and energy in the camp. I found a lot of common interest with other kiters from all levels and really enjoyed the family vibes during meal times.
My first days of kiting were really good. Having Miky as a teacher was a blessing, his teaching is very effective. I enjoyed being under the guidance of him and felt very safe, giving directions and executing them well. I stayed 3 weeks and did 2 courses to become an independent rider. I loved the food, 'The Mansion' and the watching tower where everyone would come to chill and watch the others kite – The Mansion is unbelievable! The wind and view is so nice – I have been waking up everyday seeing the sunrise and sunset after finishing my afternoon kite session. The bonfires and yummy marshmallows were are bonus!"
Sounds like he had a great Summer too.
Wishing you good winds wherever you are in the world and hopefully catch you on the water here at Kite Buen Hombre.
Hugs,
Genni and Team
