Everything You Need to Know

Q: Do I need any experience to join a camp?

A: Not at all! Our beginner camps are designed for people who've never touched a kite before. We start with the absolute basics and progress at your pace. If you're already experienced, we have advanced camps tailored to your level.

 

Q: How fit do I need to be?

A: Kitesurfing is surprisingly accessible. You need moderate fitness—if you can swim comfortably and walk on the beach, you're probably fit enough. The sport uses technique more than strength. That said, being in better shape helps you progress faster and enjoy longer sessions.

 

Q: What's the minimum age for kids camp?

A: We accept children from age 8 in our kids' camps. For younger children (6-7), we can arrange private lessons if they're comfortable swimmers and meet our weight requirement (minimum 35kg/77lbs for safety reasons).

 

Q: Can I bring my own equipment?

A: Absolutely! Advanced riders are welcome to bring their own gear. We have secure storage for your equipment. However, all our gear is included, so no need to pay airline baggage fees unless you really want your own setup.

 

Q: What if the weather is bad?

A: Buen Hombre has incredibly consistent conditions, but if weather prevents kitesurfing, we offer alternative activities like surfing, SUP, snorkeling, beach games, or excursions to nearby attractions. No refunds for weather, but we ensure you still have an amazing time.

 

Q: Is kitesurfing dangerous?

A: Like any adventure sport, kitesurfing has risks, but proper instruction and safety protocols make it very safe. We maintain the highest safety standards with thorough briefings, proper equipment, rescue boats, and experienced instructors. Our beginner-friendly location with shallow, flat water is one of the safest places to learn.

 

Q: What should I bring? A: Pack light! Bring:

• Swimsuits (2-3)

• Sunscreen (reef-safe recommended)

• Sunglasses with strap

• Light t-shirts/rash guards

• Flip-flops and water shoes

• Personal toiletries

• Any prescription medications

• Camera (waterproof if possible)

• Cash for tips and extras

We provide all kitesurfing equipment, towels, and beach essentials.

 

Q: Are rooms private or shared?

A: We offer both options. Standard pricing includes shared rooms (2-4 people of same gender). Private rooms and couples rooms available for a supplement of $30-50/night depending on season.

 

Q: Can non-kiters come along?

A: Yes! Partners and family members are welcome. They can relax on the beach, try other activities (SUP, snorkeling, excursions), or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Contact us for non-kiter rates.

 

Q: Do you offer payment plans?

A: Yes! Pay 30% deposit to secure your spot, and the remainder can be split into 2-3 payments before your arrival. Contact us to arrange a payment schedule.

 

Q: What's your cancellation policy?

A:    60+ days before camp: Full refund minus $100 processing fee

• 30-59 days: 50% refund

• Less than 30 days: No refund, but credit toward future camp within 12 months

• We recommend travel insurance for unexpected situations

 

Q: Is WiFi available?

A: Yes, we have high speed Starlink WiFi in common and private areas. 

 

Q: What currency should I bring?

A: Dominican Pesos (DOP) or US Dollars (USD). US dollars are widely accepted. Bring cash for tips, souvenirs, and off-site excursions. There's an ATM in the nearest town (30 minutes away).

 

Q: Do I need travel insurance?

A: While not mandatory, we strongly recommend travel insurance that covers adventure sports. This protects you against trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and lost baggage.
