Our Story: 12+ Years of Passion & Community
In 2013, a vision took flight in the remote fishing village of Buen Hombre. Miky and Riin arrived with more than just kites and boards—they brought a dream of sharing the incredible sport of kitesurfing with this untouched corner of the Dominican Republic. What started as a small school on pristine beaches has grown into a thriving community where over 3,000 students have learned to harness the wind and ride the waves.
Buen Hombre wasn't just another location on a map—it became home. Living alongside the village community, we've witnessed first-hand the transformative power of kitesurfing. More than 15 local boys have learned the sport with us, with many becoming accomplished kitesurfers themselves. Some have even joined our team, creating a beautiful circle of knowledge-sharing and community growth.
Today, Kite Buen Hombre operates from two premier locations in the Dominican Republic: our original home in Buen Hombre, Monte Cristi, and our expanded base in Cabarete, Puerto Plata. Both locations offer the perfect combination of consistent wind, warm Caribbean waters, and uncrowded conditions that make learning to kitesurf a pure joy.

Miky is not just our head instructor—he's a legend in Dominican kitesurfing. As the Dominican Republic Strapless Kitesurfing Champion and Big Air Champion, Miky brings world-class expertise to every lesson. With over 15 years of teaching experience and thousands of students under his belt, he has an incredible ability to break down complex techniques into easy-to-understand progressions.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Miky was one of the pioneers who brought kitesurfing to Buen Hombre. His deep knowledge of local wind patterns, water conditions, and the best spots makes him an invaluable guide for both learning and exploring. Miky specializes in all aspects of kitesurfing—from first-time beginners finding their balance to advanced riders mastering strapless tricks and big air maneuvers.

Riin is the creative heart and visionary behind Kite Buen Hombre. In 2013, she and Miky took a leap of faith to establish the Dominican Republic's first kitesurfing school in the remote village of Buen Hombre. What started as a passion project has blossomed into a thriving business that has introduced thousands to the sport she loves.
Beyond managing operations and marketing, Riin is a skilled kitesurfer and instructor who brings a patient, encouraging approach to teaching. Her background in creative content means she's also behind the stunning photos and videos that capture the magic of kitesurfing in Buen Hombre—check out the school's vibrant social media and blog to see her work in action.
Riin's deep connection to the Buen Hombre community shines through in everything she does. From organizing beach cleanups to supporting local initiatives, she ensures that Kite Buen Hombre gives back to the village that welcomed them. Helen is the organizational force that keeps Kite Buen Hombre running smoothly. As both a certified instructor and Kite Club Manager, she expertly juggles teaching on the water with managing daily operations, student scheduling, and ensuring everyone has an amazing experience from the moment they arrive.
With a keen eye for detail and genuine passion for helping others succeed, Helen excels at matching students with the right instructors and lessons for their skill level and goals. Her warm, welcoming personality puts nervous beginners at ease, while her technical knowledge and teaching skills help intermediate riders break through plateaus.
Helen's multilingual abilities and international background make her especially adept at working with our diverse student base.
